4 out of 5 stars

When Ram came up with Katrathu Thamizh, we did not think that it will become a cult film in Tamil film history. Today, he has matched it with another fine film, something that we will talk about even after a few years. Taramani deals with many issues under the disguise of a modern day love story. Vasanth Ravi is dumped by his girl friend and he comes across Andrea who is living with her son. They soon become friends and later fall in love. The film deals with their relationship with specific focus on the way men deal with love, their possessiveness and lust. The beauty is the way in which it is narrated. There is no right or wrong and the film is not preachy. Director Ram keeps talking to the audience and that’s the part that I enjoyed the most. His comments on current affair and the usual pun are a joy to hear. The masterpiece is a comment on India Vs Srilanka cricket match and the follow-up television news. Yuvan’s music is good and his BGM is very good. The film does have its drawbacks especially the length and the slow second half. This is a different film and it is going to have different kinds of reaction. Mine is a positive one.
