4.5 out of 5 stars

Wow! What a film! One of Pa Ranjith’s best. This is a period boxing film about two boxing clans in North Madras. Aarya is interested in boxing right from his young age but his mother prevents him from even watching the matches. Arya supports one of the clans and there comes a time when he is drawn into the boxing world. The first half is very good and keep you thoroughly engaged. Especially, the Dancing Rose sequence is the highlight. Shabeer Kallarakkal as Dancing Rose is a show stealer. Easily one of the best characterizations in recent times. Aarya has worked hard for the film. All the supporting cast have also done well. SaNa is on fire as always. The second half loses steam for some time when the starts to make mistakes. However, the film again picks up momentum and ends well. The other big plus point in Ranjith’s story telling is the way he integrates the late 70’s politics into the story. Hats off to him.
