2.5 out of 5 stars

Saivam is like limited meals without proper side dish. There is nothing wrong with the plot, the presentation or the climax. There is some right amount of comedy, melodrama and entertaining twists. At slightly over 2hrs, the length is right too. Yet, when you walk out of the theatre you walk unsatisfied. Nasser is old man in a village and his grand daughter Saraya is affectionate towards a pet rooster. The entire family of Nasser comes to the village for a festival. The rooster that is meant to be sacrificed in front of a village deity goes missing. The entire family start searching and how it ends forms rest of the story. Baby Saraya has acted well and it is so nice to see her. The love segment is nice at times. Some repetitive scenes bring out a yawn. Music by GV Prakash is very good. Need to appreciate director Vijay for making such a film without big stars. Emotional scenes are his strength and even in this film that is where he scores. In the climax, the entire family turn Vegetarians and I felt it was artificial .
