A great movie that might not strike the right chord with our audience because of its preachy styled slow narration. Arya is a people’s cause communist fighter who gets branded as a terrorist and capital punishment is awarded to him. Shaam is his prison in-charge who is given the responsibility of hanging him. Vijay Sethupathy is the hangman and Karthika is another comrade who tries to get Arya out of the jail. The film revolves around these characters with a lot of communism related dialogues and in that process exposes some gaps in the society including out judicial system. The film is flawless and has all the logics in the right place. The director’s dialogues are brilliant as always and hit the nail on its head. Acting is superlative. The jail sequences are shot really well. The first half is too preachy and moves at snail pace ignored to establish the characters. Though the second half is fast and has some great thrilling moments, it has its documentary moments too. Vijay Sethupathy steals the show with his acting. Shaam is good too. Arya’s character is great, but his body language is not impressive. Director SP Jananathan is a brilliant talent who uses films to touch upon several social causes. That is his strength and also his weakness because at times he goes overboard. By putting too many issues into one film, he has spoilt the narration. The songs act as speed breakers. I thoroughly enjoyed the film because such films are rare and also because I believe in the director’s point of view. Such concepts should have been packaged well to reach the larger audience.
