First things first, #PS2 is brilliantly made and a fitting tribute to Kalki’s masterpiece. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The first part established the characters, the basic plot and ended with Ponniyin Selvan getting drowned in the sea. The second part starts with a flashback on the love story between Karikalan (Vikram) and Nandini (Aishwarya) which makes us understand the reason for her actions. The story immediately moves back to where we left. Every scene is masterfully crafted. Especially the romantic scene between Karthi and Trisha is sooo good that it will be remembered for long. The grandeur is visible in every frame. The dialogues are very good. The acting is top class. ARR’s music is very good (of course sometimes I feel Illayaraja could have taken you back in time to the Chola era a little better). The biggest drawbacks are some of the fight scenes including the climax war scene. There are many deviations from the original book. One can argue that Mani shouldn’t have done that. However, there lies Maniratnam’s brilliance. The book doesn’t answer several questions. You cannot make a movie that way. The ending could appear different but it stays true to history. A must watch.
