2.5 out of 5 stars

A movie that has a unique story, a presentation with Venkatprabhu’s trademarks and even some humour yet it leaves an unfulfilled feeling in you. The plot has been lifted from a Korean film. Surya is a conman who due to an accident is able to see and interact with ghosts. He starts using some ghosts in his con-acts. He comes across a ghost in one of the houses and what happens after that forms rest of the movie (sorry, I can’t let out the spoilers). Venkatprabhu has proved once again that he can think differently. The first half starts in an uninspiring manner and slowly picks pace from the time Surya starts interacting with ghosts. The 20min before interval segment makes you sit up. It is the second half that moves endlessly with some boring flashback and a good samaritan song. The scene where Jai comes is a creative punch from the director and he could have used the same creativity to come up with a better second half which moves into revenge saga and a lame twist. I think VPrabhu would have not wanted to repeat a con theme for fear of comparison with Mankatha but in my view a con theme involving ghosts would have worked better than the revenge plot. Surya plays his role to perfection. Nayanthara has been completely wasted. Yuvan’s songs are no good except for the Mass theme music. The director again scores in effectively using dialogues/music from other movies. He even draws reference to CV Kumar, other film names, etc. Premji is the director’s plus and minus. He can’t emote and has the same expressions but a Venkatprabhu film without him is incomplete. If the unwanted scenes (flashback, ghost song, senti song…) are removed and a better ending was thought through, the film would have become a cult classic. A wasted effort.
