4 out of 5 stars

This is a film that you will either love or hate….I loved watching it. The film talks about several taboos and also touches upon marital rape and its effect on the victim. The movie is adult themed and not meant for kids. Well here too the director has broken a taboo because the tamilnadu government’s decision on giving tax exemption to only movies certified as “U” has totally affected creative freedom and I can’t even remember when rape was last seen in a tamil film. Again, there are a lot of stereotyping that happens in tamil cinema and women directors are constrained to make movies within a certain boundary, this film comes from Geetanjali Selvaraghavan and that is a welcome relief. In terms of a story line, the plot is fairly simple and something that we recently saw in “Raja Rani”. A girl who had a recent love break-up is forced by her parents to marry a typical Selvaraghavan type of hero, someone who is raw like the one in 7/G Rainbow Colony. The couple don’t get along well despite the hero’s attempt to adjust. Just when the heroine tries to understand and gets closer to him, a foolish drunken act spoils it. What happens after that forms rest of the story. Selva proves once again that he is good with such script writing. His wife has directed the film and there are some original directorial moments. The new actors are brilliant choices and the heroine especially has done her role extremely well. Cinematography is good. The biggest plus of the film is debutant music director, Amrit’s fantastic music. The songs rock and his BGM is simply outstanding. The first half has very little dialogues and the film entirely belongs to Amrit’s orchestration. I hope the BGM tracks are released soon. The movie moves at a slow pace many a times and though it is only 2hrs long, several scenes appear stretched. The reason for heroine’s initial hatred towards the hero is not well established and the hero being such a bumpkin is also strange. Some illogical scenes (FB friend tagging along with hero to Munnar) prevent the movie from becoming another 7/G or Kaadhal Kondein. Nevertheless, the film has its moments.
