4 out of 5 stars

A highly engaging film. Sasikumar and Unni Mukundan are best friends. Soori is Unni’s loyal man Friday. A minister (RV Udaykumar) eyes a property belonging to the temple. To get what he wants he unleashes chaos in the village. How the friends get involved and what happens when Soori’s loyalty is tested forms the plot. Soori is simply superb in every scene. Be it romance or sentiment or anger or action or just helplessness…he hits the ball out of the park. Sasikumar, Sshivada, Samuthrakani have all acted well. Unni Mukundan is a miscast. For a film rooted in Madurai, his Malayalam accent stands out (in Asuran, Lal speaks with an accent but we don’t mind it but here it looks odd). Yuvan Shankar’s music and BGM is outstanding. The violence is too graphic and could have been toned down for the family audience. Director Durai Senthilkumar has come up with a winner.
