A great first half and letdown second half makes this another ordinary Manirathnam film which seems to be getting overhyped by Mani Sir’s Army(?!). The story is about an ageing don Prakashraj who survives an assassination attempt and the power struggle between his three sons: Arvindswamy, Arun Vijay and Simbu. The film also had Vijay Sethupathy, a cop and a friend to the family. The first half is all about the brothers trying to find who wanted to kill their father and that keeps us hooked. In the second half when the film moves to the power struggle, the director completely loses grip on the narrative and it becomes a boring gun shot saga. Several characters seem wasted and some of them you wonder why they even exist. A classic example is Aditi Rao and the scene where she meets Jyothika is a big joke. Climax is a big letdown though the director (and probably is great fans) could have thought that the mystery was unraveled brilliantly. I thought there was no mystery and it has been conceived in a childish manner. ARRs songs don’t make an impact. Of the lot, probably Arun Vijay has done his part well. Others have acted in their natural style. A weak plot with a stylish presentation, watchable only because multi starrer movies are rare to tamil cinema.
