An intense blood soaked revenge drama that gets better with every frame and peaks during the climax. This film is straight forward and the director is very clear from the very beginning that he is not going to try any twists that could work against the film. The film begins with intense music. Dhanush is seen wading through water in a forest to avoid getting captured by police. His wife Manju Warrier along with her daughter Is also seen trying to avoid the cops. It is evident that Dhanush has killed someone and there are many people trying to hunt him down. Then comes a violent flashback that explains the situation. The second half has an even more violent flashback and then comes the climax that is mother of all violent scenes we have seen before. While, I wonder how the film was given a U/A certificate instead of A certificate; I love the violence in this film. I could never understand when someone says that a film has a lot of violence and directors should avoid them. No one says this about a comedy film, “there is too much comedy and director should avoid it” or about a romantic film or an action film. A children’s film cannot have violence, but a violent film needs to be violent. This is a story on violence in the name of caste and there is no better way to show it. The director does not glorify violence and he has some hard hitting dialogues and suggestions that make sense. Acting is top class though during initial scenes Dhanush doesn’t look old enough for the role. Velraj’s Cinematography and GV’s music makes the film a classic. Vetrimaran continues to show his class and he is on a class of his own. Kudos to Dhanush and him for coming up with another winner.
