In an attempt to bring back vintage Rajini, Siva & Team have brought back 80s or  90s vintage movie rehash to us. Rajini is a village headman who loves his sister Keerthy Suresh. After marriage, his sister goes to Kolkata. When she faces a problem there, Annaatthe goes to her rescue and cleanses Kolkata of all the bad men. The film reminds you of Vijay’s Thirupaachi and Ajith’s Vedalam. The first half is filled with comedy scenes that are so outdated that even the diehard Rajini fans couldn’t tolerate. The scenes involving Kushbu and Meena test your patience. Rajini piercing his body and pulling a temple car for his sister is heights. The film picks pace only just before interval when something happens in the village and the setting moves to Kolkata. The film is not bad it is just uninteresting.  The film works in parts only because of Rajini. The sentiment scenes are good but look clearly forced. The sister sentiment scenes moved me but the director doesn’t allow you to stay with the scene and moves to the next one immediately. Rajini is made to mouth many advices like Samuthrakani. Nayanthara has no role to play except being around with Rajini and supporting him like half a dozen others. Songs and BGM by Imman are good. When Rajini agreed to act in a Siva film, this is what I expected and so my only disappointment is Arivu’s A for Annaatthe song missing in the film.
