3 out of 5 stars

Firstly, I like it when filmmakers try to experiment with their films and secondly, I like it even more if their experiment works. Karthik Subbaraj has made a silent film, a thriller and it works most of the time. Five friends who are deaf and dumb go on a holiday and they kill a person (Prabhudeva) in a road accident. They happen to visit an abandoned mercury factory where Prabhudeva comes back for his revenge. The film starts slowly and picks pace after the accident. There are several thrilling moments. What doesn’t work is the Tamil subtitles when they speak in sign language. This makes it difficult for those who can’t read tamil (I was translating all the time for the person sitting next to me). The story is complicated and has a lot of loop holes such as who is Prabhudeva and why he struggles to take revenge when he has special powers. The acting, cinematography and music are top class. Prabhudeva especially is menacing as the villain. The film runs for less than two hours. Worth a watch.
