5 out of 5 stars

Premam is such a fine film that you don’t want it to end. I just can’t stop thinking about the film and its hilarious moments. The plot is simple and very similar to Cheran’s tamil film, Autograph. It is a coming-of-age story on Nivin Pauly’s life and his three love episodes during different stages of his life. Director Alphonse Putharen’s second film draws you in right from the innovative thank you title cards. Nivin and his friend have played their role to perfection clearly differentiating their appearance between school, college and working timeline. Every character has been conceived cleverly and several scenes are hilarious. Especially the love episodes involving the computer teacher and his attempt in trying to impress his colleague. Sai Pallavi as Malar has already stolen many hearts in Kerala and mine in Chennai(!). The music and songs are excellent. Cinematography is top class too. The way the butterflies are shown throughout the movie, the dialogues that appear during songs or scenes and the last scene when they capture and torture a person; all carry the brilliance of the director. Thoroughly enjoyable.
