4 out of 5 stars

A coming of age movie but this one focuses on the mother-daughter relationship. Ladybird is a name Christine gives to herself. She lives in Sacramento, California and dreams of joining a college in the east coast. She has a strained relationship with her mom and is only close to her dad. She doesn’t care for her family and is more focused on her romantic relationships and friendship with the popular students. The film focuses on her time at the high school until she joins college. The dialogues are a big plus. There is constant humour and another big plus is the way the director has made us relate to Lady Bird’s changing moods. Saorise Ronan is superb as Ladybird and deserves an academy nomination. The Screenplay is great and also deserves an academy nomination for original writing. The film has dealt the mother-daughter relationship in a realistic way. The love and hatred are so real.
