A fantastic film that focuses on a gay relationship like never before. It is a coming of age movie involving a 17-year-old boy (Elio) who meets his father’s research assistant, Oliver, a 24 year old American and develops a friendship with him. The two bond over the summer and slowly get attracted to each other. Elio slowly starts distancing himself from his girlfriend and starts a romantic relationship with Oliver. There are several fantastic moments in this film, including a brilliant conversation between Elio and his dad. How the mature Oliver deals with Elio and the numerous emotions that Elio goes through has been portrayed very well. The title has a meaning too. Timothy Chalamet is brilliant in the role of Elio and deserves an academy award for his performance (or atleast a nomination) and the film deserves an award too. The open mindedness with which the makers have made the film and the way it is dealt with by the characters makes this one of the influential films on the subject. Goes without saying that watching with young children is not recommended. Oh! did I miss talking about the music; the piano usage is just out of this world, classic BGM.
