4 out of 5 stars

A sweet love story with fantastic dialogues and great acting. A young irish girl moves to Brooklyn for a better career. She falls in love with an Italian boy and this love helps her forget her homesickness and brings joy to her life. Due to some emergency, she had to return to Ireland. The rest of the film is on her family and her friends wanting her to stay back and her decision. I was expecting a drama and was pleasantly surprised with the heartwarming love story. Saoirse Ronan has acted really well and deserves her oscar nomination. There are no dull moments in the film. The dialogues are brilliant: “yesterday, when you said you love me, I didnt know what to say. Now I know exactly what to say. So the next time you tell me you love me, if there is a next time, I’ll say I love you too”. “Homesickness is like most sickness, it will pass”. I thought the screenplay could have been a little better towards the end to better establish the actress’ dilemma.
