4.5 out of 5 stars

Wow! What a film! When the film was announced and when I learnt Keerthy Suresh is playing the role of legendary actress Savithri, I honestly laughed out loud. Today, I am so amazed with everything about this film that I can only ask you not to miss it and request you to take your parents/grandparents with you. The film starts with Savithri being admitted in a Bangalore hospital in the year 1980. A year later Samantha, a journalist is asked to write a story on Savithri who has been on coma for a year. Vijay Devarakonda is asked to be her photographer. She goes around meeting people who narrate the story of success, love and the tragic fall in a way that changes Samantha’s life forever. Keerthy Suresh has come up with an award deserving performance. A once in a life time role that she has done complete justice to. She has lived the life of Savithri. Dulquer as Gemini is brilliant. He might not look like Gemini and his mannerisms may not be so perfect but he has proved once again his versatility. The role has shades of negativity which has been brought out very well. Director Nag Ashwin has blended the story of the actress and that of the journalist brilliantly. There are so many similarities in the real and fictional story and he could bring out how Savithri has influenced many lives. Mohan Babu as SV Ranga Rao or Naga Chaitanya as ANR are good too. Mickey J Meyer’s music is a big plus. Kudos to the other technical teams such as Cinematography or Art Direction. There are several goosebump moments. The only drawback is the occasional slow pace especially the early life of Savithri. Having watched the Telugu version, I am now planning to watch the Tamil one. Films like this are rare and so don’t miss it.
