A patience tester and a heart breaker for the fans of Manirathnam. Even his bad movies would have two things: an attempt to tell a story and some romantic and emotional scenes that would work. In this film, even those scenes are not there. A pilot who is captured by Pakistan army thinks about his love life while held captive in their jail. How he met the heroine, who is a doctor, proposing to her, etc. He tries to escape from the prison to meet her again. This is the plot. The biggest weak link is Karthi. Neither can he act not can he emote. His close-up shots are unbearable and the audience get agitated when that happens. To make things worse, his characterization ensures that he does not have the sympathy of the audience. To match the miscast of Karthi as a romantic hero, Mani Sir seems to have decided on a slightly mature looking heroine, Aditi. The heroine has played her role extremely well. Wonder why, RJ Balalji was chosen for a serious role and what was the need to have Delhi Ganesh or the family wedding before interval? Even the scenes where Karthi escapes from a prison hasn’t been thought through and appears to be a joke. The only things that make you feel that you are watching a Manirathnam film is the brilliant music from ARR and other technical factors. The dialogues could have worked in the 80s but they now look so artificial. When the climax was over, I felt sorry for Manirathnam.
