2 out of 5 stars

Before Enthiran2.0, Rajini seems to have decided to make a Linga2.0. The film is a big bore and is a patience tester. Forget meeting the expectations of a Rajini film, this one even fails to meet the expectations created by Ranjith’s last films. Rajini is a people’s don who gets released from jail after 25 years. In a flashback sequence you get to know that his wife was killed by a Chinese don. Rajini believes that his wife would be alive and starts searching for her. What follows is not an action revenge saga but a husband searching for wife family tearjerker. The first 15 min is really good with Rajini coming out of the jail, meeting a villain and some punch dialogues. Just when you expect a Rajini comeback film, the film starts getting slower and slower. By interval, even hardcore Rajini fans start moving uncomfortably in their chairs. Ranjith’s pathetic screenplay needs to be blamed for this fiasco. One really doesn’t know what Ranjith was thinking when he wanted to make this film, a Mudhal Mariyathai with a gangster?? There is no comedy, the song picturisation is bad, the characters are more a caricature (especially Attakathi Dinesh) and stunt scenes are mere gun fight action. Don’t know why they needed a young Radhika Apte to play the role of an aged gangster’s wife when she only had a handful of scenes in a younger avatar. Rajini is stylish and in few scenes tries hard to emote but that alone is not enough. The songs are very good. If you walkin expecting a sentimental film, you will like this film.
