3 out of 5 stars

It is probably a good short film that has been stretched to a two hour feature. The film is a faithful remake of a Hindi film, Nil Battey Sannata. Amala Paul is a maid and her daughter who is in her tenth standard is poor in maths. Amala is worried if she would pass her board exam. She shares her concern with her employer, Revathi. Revathi helps her join the same class as her daughter so that she can study and also teach her daughter. Her daughter doesn’t like her mom studying with her. What happens next forms the rest of the plot. The quality of the film is superior with excellent performances, great cinematography and Illayaraja’s soul filling music. Towards the end, the film turns sentimental and touching. The biggest problem with the film is you know how it will end and so you just wait for it to end. Remembering maths problems with some life examples appears illogical. Worth a watch if you are prepared to get sentimental.
