An excellent biopic on the world-renowned mathematician. There are n-number of ways by which you can make a biopic, but the best way is by making the film interesting to the audience. This is the reason why some biopics are received well, and the others aren’t. This film is not linear. It starts with Shakuntala Devi suing her mother in London. Before we know, what transpired her daughter to go against her mother, we are taken to the early life of Shakuntala. The story is then narrated through a series of flashbacks and flashforwards, thus making the story-telling interesting. Vidya Balan is perfect as Shakuntala Devi. The characterization is complex, yet she delivers with ease. Everything is good about the film if you want to see it as a Bollywood commercial film. However, if you want to look at this film as a true biopic of the legend, that’s when it has a lot of room for improvement.
