3.5 out of 5 stars

Adapted from Chetan Bhagat’s novel. The film is a faithful adaptation and lacks the brilliance of 3 Idiots or Kai Po Che. However, it is far better than the disastrous Hello. It is a simple story of a Punjabi guy falling in love with a Tamil girl and how they convince their parents to accept their love. The film has a couple of interesting sub plots too. The one liner story could be similar to several previous films including Ek Duje Ke Liye. However, this is a modern day take and has an interesting screenplay. What I liked about the film is its characterisation. Instead of making a caricature out of south indians, the heroine character is shown as progressive. While the first half is original, the second half moves along a predictable path and thats the place where the director should have concentrated on some original ideas. Worth a watch.
