1.5 out of 5 stars

Lingaa is better than Baba but painfully bad. The film is outdated on many accounts. This time the blame is entirely on Rajni for letting his fans down. The story is already revealed in the trailer. A carefree Rajni is asked to come to a village to open a closed temple to save their dam. In the flashback it is revealed that the dam was built by his grandfather Rajni who was king but gave away his entire wealth (Like Muthu) to build the dam. The young(?!) Rajini then plays his role to fight the villains and save the dam. Rajni clearly appears old not just with the bad makeup but he struggles with simple dance moves, dialogue delivery and even with expressions. Most scenes have been shot with a body double reminding of Rajni’s Chandramukhi comedy dialogue with Vadivelu on 9 wives. ARR’s music is a big disappointment with none of the songs creating an impact and the BGM reminds you of band play in weddings. ARR could have saved the film with a little creative music. Why cast Sonakshi Sinha in a role that could have been done by Sneha or Anjali? The comedy is bad especially the jewel heist scene tests your patience. The film at 3 hrs is toooo long and the flashback could have easily been trimmed by 30min. The first half appeared to be stretched without any purpose but the second half makes the first half look better. The climax is kidish. I am not going to blame KS Ravikumar for Rajni’s inability to chose the right script.
