The review is from an ardent Vijay fan who watches Ajith films wanting it to flop. If you don’t trust the fairness of my review, read no further. Vedhalam is a boring masala film which has 3 villains, endless action and dull twists that test your patience. The film is a rehash of Baasha and surprisingly Ajith has already done a similar film (Jana). Ajith comes to Kolkata with his sister Lakshmi Menon. His sister joins an arts college and Ajith takes the job of a taxi driver. Shruthi hassan is a lawyer who loses her job because of Ajith. In a parallel story there are three villain brothers who run an international drug and female trafficking business. When Ajith helps the police uncover a drug hideout, one of the villains traces Ajith as the informer. He gets Ajith to his yacht and tries to kill him…and thats when you see the real side of Ajith. Who is actually Ajith and why he wants to take revenge, is narrated through a flashback. The comedy sucks and is painful especially Soori and Kovai Sarala are unbearable. The stunt scenes involve hundreds of bullets which Ajith easily manages to dodge. Ajith has put on a lot of weight and his old man looks make him look like Lakshmi Menon’s dad and not brother. It is high time he watches his weight and also moves out of the salt and pepper hairdo. Shruthi hassan has no role to play. Anirudh’s music is just fine but his BGM is a big plus for the film. Ajith inability to dance makes the hit number “Aaluma Doluma” ordinary. While the don role has some moments for the fans to cheer, they are far and few. Ajith has definitely worked hard for the film and that is clearly evident as he tries to lift the film many a times but there is only so much that one can do with such a script. What irritates me is the self pity that Ajith attempts in each film: “I came up on my one”, “every moment of my life has been chiseled by me”, “many people have backstabbed me”…. I have never seen a Vikram or Kamal repeat such a statement. True it is targeted at his fans but it looks more like a political speech. Wonder why Ajith keeps choosing such films. Heard a Vijay fan saying that even Vijay disappoints his fans sometimes but Ajith hardly disappoints Vijay fans. This appears to be true as I can see the Vijay fans celebrating.
