4.5 out of 5 stars

A fantastic film and rightfully deserves all the four oscar nominations: Best Picture, Leading Actress, Direction and Adapted Screenplay. A 17-year-old girl is kidnapped and held captive in a 10 x10 room for several year. She is often sexually abused by her captor and gives birth to Jack. Jack grows up in “The Room” to be a 5-year-old. He knows nothing about the outside world and his only view of the outside world is through a television where he thinks the people shown are imaginary ones. What happens when he gets out of the room and how he and his Ma manages forms the crucial part of the story. The entire film is narrated often through the eyes and mind of the 5-year-old. The trauma of the mother in not just bringing up the kid but also the challenges faced by her in the outside world, is brilliantly portrayed by Brie Larson. Truly an oscar deserving performance. The film is engaging, and you feel for the characters. Such a film can be ended in multiple ways, however the ending chosen by the filmmaker makes the film outstanding.
