A not so good second film from the director who gave us a brilliant Soodhu Kavvum. It is a remake of korean hit “My Dear Desperado”. I was surprised that Nalan chose this as his second film and thought he will genuinely make some changes to the plot and bring in his flavour. This is where he disappointed me though the movie as such is definitely worthy of a watch. The film is entirely a one man show from Vijay Sethupathi and the film is likeable only because of his presence. Vijay Sethupathi is a local thug working for a gangster/politician. He has even gone to jail for the sake of this gangster and is hoping to get a bar license. Madonna is an IT girl who loses her job is desperate to get another one. She moves as a neighbour to Vijay Sethupathi and the whole film is about their bonding. Vijay Sethupathi scores big time as the kind hearted thug who helps everyone. His body language may seem repetitive but the role is so tailor made for him and with any other body language it will be out of place. Madonna is cute and acts well. Santosh Narayan is brilliant with his music and continues his golden run. Seeing just two characters talking to each other, without a love/romantic angle or proper action sequences would work for Korean audiences and some film fans like me. This is definitely a big let down for the general audience.
