5 out of 5 stars

Dangal is not yet another sports movie…it is the reason why we should watch movies. The basic premise is not too different from several coach movies that we have seen in the past, Chak de! India or Saala Khadoos. In this case it is the story of a wrestler who misses representing the country and tries to achieve his dream through his daughters. A simple story of a coach who gets his daughters to focus on the sport and help them achieve glory. What makes the film different is the brilliant way in which Nitesh Tiwari has handled the screenplay along with brilliant performances from Aamir Khan and other lead actors. This is one of India’s best sports films and it also talks about gender equality and how difficult it is for women to succeed in today’s sports world. Every scene is brilliant, and the film makes you feel proud. True the film starts with a father forcing his daughters into a sport just because it is his dream and that’s unlike Aamir Khan…but this is a true story and one cannot mess with facts. There were several touching scenes that will definitely make your eyes wet. That’s the beauty of film making. You tend put yourselves in the father’s shoes, you tend to be the daughter who fights against all odds and you also tend to be the audience who cheers in the crowd. Watch the film today. It is a nice way to end the year. If not, watch it tomorrow, it is also a nice way to start the year.
