4.5 out of 5 stars

A black comedy, crime and drama mixed in the right proportion to come up with an awesome output. A mother (Mildred Hayes) who is grieving the loss of her daughter who was raped and killed seven months ago. Angry over the slow progress in the investigation, she rents three billboards near her house and has three messages on it: “Raped while Dying”, “And still no arrests?” and “How come, Chief Willoughby”. These billboards not only upset the Sheriff but also his entire police team. The towns people are also upset because of Sheriff’s health condition. The film is about how Mildred overcomes all these reactions and what happens to the chief. There is also another officer Dixon who gets involved. The film is completely unpredictable and has some outstanding performances. Frances McDormand has come up with her career best and deserves multiple awards. Same is the case with Sam Rockwell was Dixon. Easily one of the best pictures of the year though I wasn’t quite convinced with the way it ended.
