3.5 out of 5 stars

A rare bold Tamil film and hence is a must watch. It is a free spirited movie about a group of girls, how they let themselves loose and in that process solve some of their problems. Oviya moves into an apartment complex and immediately becomes friends with four other ladies. These conservative ladies are initially shocked by Oviya’s approach to life but soon becomes her drinking buddies. The film is about how their new attitude helps them solve their problems. The film has a lot of sexual references, liplocks and bedroom scenes, hence can be watched only by adults. This film is like an adult version of Dil Chata Hai and is something that has never been attempted in Tamil cinema. Now, what is debatable is whether the movie is interesting or not but not whether such a movie will spoil the so called Tamil culture. Movies have mostly been a mirror that reflects our real life. If we think that women don’t drink or have fun then we are disconnected from reality. If we think that women shouldn’t be having fun then the thought is regressive. If we think that such realities shouldn’t be shown in Tamil films, but we will watch such movies in other languages then it is hypocrisy. I personally welcome such movies that explore the unexplored. True, the movie could have been made a lot more interesting and there are times when the movie slows down with some unrealistic action or songs that don’t interest you. A crisper screenplay with more hilarious moments could have worked even better. Kudos to the director for coming up with such a bold movie. It is time we stopped debating on what type of movies women can make and what things they can do on screen.
