5 out of 5 stars

Let me start with a disclaimer: I love romantic films and there is a natural bias when I watch a good one. This is easily the best romantic tamil movie I have seen in a long long time. Ever since I watched the trailer and every since I heard the brilliant songs from Govind Vasantha, this film has been on my must watch. The film actually surpassed my expectations in a big way. Kudos to director, Prem Kumar. While I knew that this is a story of two lovers meeting each other after two decades, I didn’t expect it to be handled in such a mature way kindling my emotions and touching my heart. Vijay Sethupathy is Trisha’s first love in school. They meet after two decades in their school reunion and what happens after that is pure poetic. I used to wonder why we haven’t attempted a movie like Richard Linklater’s “Before Sunrise” and this film finally answered my wish. Vijay Sethupathy and Trisha have come up with one of their best performances and not once that you feel that they are actually playing a character. I saw them as Ramachandran and his Janu (Janaki) all the time. Every person has played his/her role well. Govind’s music is the lifeline. Right from the title scene and till the final end credit music, his violin and piano were simply outstanding. If not for Illayaraja and his music, I wouldn’t have known what love is. Every time, Janu starts singing a S.Janaki song, I was falling more in love with the film. I am going to watch it a few more times and probably fall in love with this film again and again.
